A minutos de partir a Mt. Baw Baw
Son las 6am y estoy por salir a la universidad donde nos encontraremos con el grupo 1 de estudiantes internacionales de ACU (nosotros) para embarcarnos en una nueva aventura hace Mt. Baw Baw, un resort con varios juegos de invierno. No queda mucho tiempo asà que les dejo el link para que se den una idea.

De nuevo con el maestro Perales, acá les dejo el track #6 de la nueva producción “Navegando por ti”, este album si que está muy bueno ah!!, Ojo!! para los que les interesa saber, Perales dará una gira en la segunda mitad del año por todo América del Sur presentando este trabajo asà que prepárense, de hecho causará buenos comentarios.

Con mucha alegria me enteré que Jose Luis Perales ha sacado un nuevo album luego de 6 años de ausencia musical. Espero encontrarlo en Melbourne pero acá les dejo el primer track (prendan sus parlantes a todo volumen y denle PLAY), espero les guste. No importa cuántos años pasen… Jose Luis es Jose Luis… maestro!!!

Let’s talk about IELTS
Despite this blog has been written in Spanish, I will write a little in English because this topic is related with IELTS test. Firstly, as you can see, I am not using contractions because I am trying to improve my academic skills so do not surprise about it (I know, I know, I used contraction in the title, only one does not matter :p ).
IELTS is the acronym of International English Language Test System. Many people think the unique English test in the world is TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or FCE (First Certificate of English), however that is not true. Although TOEFL is the most popular and the most useful test if you want to live in U.S.A., here in Australia, for example, IELTS is the most recognized.
In other countries such as Great Britain, Ireland, Scottland,etc. IELTS is also required if you are planning to apply for further studies and, in fact, 97% of the British institutes prefer the IELTS exam (http://www.britishcouncil.org/sweden-education-studyuk-undergraduate-language.htm).
I think it is enough about English tests so now, following the title of this post, let us talk in depth about IELTS. This test consists of four modules Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, and in this order you will sit it.
In general, there are two types of IELTS, General IELTS, Acedemic IELTS. The first one is used mostly for applying to residence or work while the second one is required for TAFES and UNIVERSITIES.
Listening module:
In this module there are around 40 questions in four sections and the difficulty of each level increases as the test is proceeding. The first section is a conversation between two speakers. The topic is usually related with social activities. The second section is a monologue (only one person speaking). The topic in this case is non-academic. The next section is a conversation about an academic topic (usually a tutor and students). As you can see, this section is more difficult because sometimes you can not differentiate between voices and accents and, in comparison with Section 1 and 2, this dialogue is spoken faster. Finally, Section 4 is a monologue.
Reading module:
In this module there are 40 questions and three reading passages. There are also different types of questions such as multiple choice, short-answer questions, sentence completion, yes, no or not given classification, etc. In my case, “not given” questions are the trickiest.
Writing module:
This is one of my favourites. There are two tasks to complete, the first one will be a graph or table and you will have to describe in your own words the information provided (at least 150 words). Task 2 is about a topic and you will have to write your point of view or argument for and against the topic (at least 250 words).
Speaking module:
Finally, speaking module is the last module of IELTS test and it consists in three sections. The first section is about your life, your studies, experience, etc. The second section (for some people, the most difficult) is about a topic given. In this part the examiner will give you a card with a topic on it and you must talk for between one and two minutes. Finally, the third section requires you to take part in a discussion with your examiner about the topic given.
This has been an overview of IELTS test but, How important is IELTS in Australia?
If you are planning to live in Australia and you are not from english speaking country you need to show your abilities to interact in different situations. In, fact, you have to sit IELTS before appying and to get a score of 6.0. Before November 2005, the score required was 5.0 however DIMIA (The Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs) changed this requirement and the next year will be more changes.
If you are planning study here you must sit Academic IELTS. Each university requires differents scores. For example, Bachellor courses require 6.5 pts (sometimes 6.0, it depends on the course) and Master courses require 7.0 pts. All this information varies from one university to other.
At the moment I am in IELTS preparation course. This course will end in two weeks more, after that I will sit ACU test (English test of ACU) and I will sit IELTS test this September. Since the course began, I have had more troubles in reading module because there is a short time to read a normal/large article and answer different kind of questions.
Well, this post has been the first one written in English and i know that there are many mistakes above so, please correct me and if you know another expression to say the same idea, feel free to comment it.

Sentimientos de un Ingeniero atado de manos
Alguna vez se han imaginado a un doctor sin nada que operar, a un carpintero sin nada que cerruchar, a un mecanico sin nada que desarmar, a un pintor sin nada que pintar, a un electricista sin nada que soldar, a un abogado sin nada que debatir, a un arquitecto sin planos que dibujar… etc. Se que la lista puede continuar infinitamente pero la idea creo que esta clara.
En mi caso está sucediendo algo parecido aunque nada trágico. Es el simple hecho de no poder satisfacer ese bichito que tenemos algunos por investigar, descubrir nuevas cosas, probarlas y comentar… en mi caso la tecnologÃa. Si bien es cierto tengo al alcance computadoras en la biblioteca de la universidad, los que hemos estudiado informática, sistemas, ingenierÃa de software y todas sus ramas entenderán que no es suficiente.Â
Todo mundo dice que la tecnologÃa avanza vertiginosamente y no hay verdad más cierta. Ante esto a veces siento que me estoy quedando en mis laureles. Yo que normalmente estaba al tanto de cada noticia, producto beta que salÃa para testearlo y proyectos particulares en desarrollo… hoy, 3 meses luego de haber dejado Perú puedo decir que practicamente estoy desconectado de mis hábitos tecnologicos. Por otro lado, en el tema de noticias no paro muy perdido dado que gracias al portal de google puedeo tengo agrupada información sindicada relacionada a tecnologÃas emergentes y productos betas asà como también noticias del Mundo y del Perú también (www.google.com/ig), pero en temas de “fierro”, desarrollo y pruebas estoy en un serio aprieto jajaja, que exagerado!.
Viendolo desde otro punto de vista, el hecho de estar acá es realmente una suerte muy grande que pocos pueden tenerla, estudiar inglés sin presiones de trabajo, familia y dinero es algo que realmente debo apreciar, por eso este tema lo estoy tomando muy deportivamente. Lo que si me va a doler un poco es “actualizarme” en lo que a software se refiere. Como bien dicen: la práctica hace al maestro y si damos por hecho que dejé el Perú siendo un maestro en temas que dominaba(falso por cierto, pero si era bueno), actualmente estoy en un transe entre cachimbo y escolar sin saber que estudiar.
Este sentimiento es simplemente es una reflexión que quise hacer hace tiempo en el blog y que a mi parecer, quienes se embarcan en una aventura como esta, les suele pasar. Dado que hasta ahora no he pensado en prolongar mi estadÃa más allá de fin de año en Melbourne necesito necesito algo que me sirva y al mismo tiempo sea portable…. se imaginan?? pues seguro que si, una notebook (increible que lo diga porque siempre estuve en contra de ellas). Asà que por ese lado mejoraré este asunto.
