Finally in Peru, now to Cusco and the Inka trail

We arrived to cusco in about an hour and my mom’s friends were in the airport waiting for us. We were recommended to stay in a hostel near the main square. Cusco city is an amazing place that has learnt how to adapt itself to the huge demand almost all year. It’s one of the few citiies in peru with a strong foreign influence. It’s easy to find American and Italian restaurants.

We walked around and had some typical dishes. I signed up for the inka trail trip three days later, the sooner one. The next day we took a tour to the sacred valley with stops in pisac, ollantayrambo and chincheros. This tour took us the whole day. That night we took a bus to Puno city, 7 hours away from Cusco. We arrived at 5am and immidiately took a tour to Uros, the famous floating islands and then to Taquile a big island rich in traditions and folklore. We had a
gorgeous time with all the locals who showed their sympathy to us giving he presents and a dancing show after lunch. We got back Puno around 6pm and after a quick dinner we headed to the Hotel. The next morning I went back to cusco while my mom took a bus to Pomata, the city where she grew up.

Once back in cusco I got ready for the inka trail that’d start the next day. I bought all the essential stuff and went to bed early.

Los Angeles – Day 3

The third and last day in los angeles I talked with Tim and we went to Santa Monica beach.

At the begining I regreted of wearing jeans and runners while he wore a swimsuit and thongs. Once we arrived to Santa Monica beach I felt much better and he started complaining LOL… why? Well you know it was winter up there and that day the sea side was very windy, a cold wind slapped tim who expected (as i did) a great a sunny say. It was sunny but the feeezing wind changed all. We had lunch at the pier he tried to get truckers wirh no luck.

Finally we ended up havinf coffee at 3rd avenue, a kind of boulevard in Santa Monica. Nice place that reminded me for a second Bourke st. in Melbourne with its chain if shops and the street shows that are presented. It was 5pm already so we went back to the hostel to do the packing as our flight was at 5am the next morning.

I packed quickly and, after a grassy dinner at Popeye’s, we spent the rest of the time at the tv room. By 1am the shuttle turned up and at
2am we were at LAX airport again, ready to get the Taca flight to El Salvador and then Lima :)

The check-in process at LAX for taxa passangers was a completely a mess. We waited for a long time in every immigration step. Not sure if it was because of the time (5am) or It’s always like this in this company. We also met two austrlians going to peru for the inca trail too, we talked a bit with them while waited in the queue. Finally at 4.30am we got into plane and we were finally ready to leave USA towards South America. The immigration process was again painless (not thinking about the time we waited for the staff to get ready). We arrived at San Salvador airport at noon where we met these two aussies again and then to Lima around 7pm.

Unfortunatelly at this point we lost contact with the couple of Aussie guys. All I knew was they were heading cusco at 9am the next morning.

The feeling in the last hour before landing at Jorge Chavez airport was a mix of anxiety and uncertainty, two years out of Peru had been
enough and the plan was visiting family, friends and traveling throughout Peru. But again, these last 60 minutes were very special. We
landed at Jorge Chavez and I was stacked at the window watching every detail out there. Tim was also excited as that was his first visit to South America, in other words, great things were waiting for us.

I passed through the Peruvian immigration and after the baggage claiming thing I saw my mom and cousins out there. There are no words
to describe the feeling. Even though ive been in touch with my family via chat and video conferences ir was very special anyway… as it had to be, right?

I introduced Tim to my relatives and we took two cabs to miraflores. Tim had booked a room in a backpacker hostel so we took him to his new place and after swaping contact details we agreed to keep in touch if we dont meet again in cusco. I was meant flying to cusco the next morning whereas his flight to cusco was for like 5 days later.

We got to by cousin’s apartment and after a quick dinner I went straight to sleep as i was so tired after the long flying.

The next day, with almost no stops I took one of the first flights to cusco and the best traveling partner joined me, my lovely mom :)
